I move restlessly from chair to chair on the patio, gaze into the starry sky and realise my children are growing up quite fast. A colleague of mine at the university where I worked had told me about admitting her son in the Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar. Retracing my steps back to my bedroom, I peeked into my children’s bedroom only to see them fast asleep. I realised that one day, we might have to go through the same process of my colleague.
My female friend had asked me for tips on a budget travel. Having booked our travel and stay, we took up travelling with our kids to Amritsar. Having divided the cooking we had a variety of eats apart from the vintage books we carried being ardent readers. G.N.D.U campus is spread over 500 acres of land, is both a residential and affiliating university. It imparts education and promotes research in humanities, sciences, learned professions of applied nature and technology. In addition to academics, it has facilities for recreation and all round development. An all purpose auditorium, six conference and seminar halls, a modern hi-tech sports complex, hostel, health centre, holiday homes and much more.
We walked into the campus with lush green grounds, lanes of trees in full blossom and swaying fields in the background. To a nature lover like me, it would be a pride to work in this conducive environment. The library is one of the most prestigious in the north zone of India. It boasts of more than 4 lakhs and 15,000 books! It is surely a treasure trove for someone who likes learning literature. Finishing all the formalities, we had to fill our stomach with food. The local cuisine offers some lip smacking poori, paneer bhurji, kulcha, mutton curry and the famous lassi. We strolled around, our daughters shopped a little while biting into hot samosas and sipping some tea. Guru Nanak Dev University is surely the pride of the north!
