Bhimbetka Caves Bhopal – Time to Go Back to the History of Country

In the city of lakes, I had a plenty of time to soak in the history of the country. The famous cave of Bhopal, which is popularly called Bhimbetka Caves Bhopal, is considered as the world heritage. The caves reflected the lifestyle of the early human races and they provided the evidence of Mesolithic and Stone Age period. This cave has the collection of the paintings and the ancient art of the earlier humankind living in India.

The paintings found on the walls of the cave were not much of a routine art but they are extraordinary pieces of art, which have no match with the contemporary designs found earlier. This magical cave had clusters of rocks, which used to shelter the people living in the early ages.

A famous tale about how the cave got its name came to me when I started my journey. The name Bhimbetka is derived for the name Bheem, who is a character in Mahabharata. Based on the mythology the name of the cave is Bhimbetka because it was the resting place for him after he was exiled from his kingdoms along with his brothers. The “Longue of Bheem” is considered a holy place.

This archaeological treasure contained some magnificent architecture and on one of the walls, the drawings of earlier civilization could be seen. Animals such as bison, tiger, rhinoceros and wild boars with monkeys and lizards were abundantly depicted on the walls. It was clearly seen that the earlier humankind was smart enough to make colours from manganese, red stone and wooden charcoal.

The Bhimbetka Caves Bhopal is not only amazing because of the paintings on the walls but also thrilling for other archaeological remains excavated from the cave, which made me believe that the evidences I read about in the books are completely valid.

Overall, the journey to Bhimbetka cave was enlightening as various art treasures served a medium to connect to the earlier stages of humankind. The rock paintings showed the tracking of the atmospheric conditions that was used before. With this I ended my journey and went back to my hotel with the reminiscence of the cave still in my mind.
