After the hectic time at Lakkar Bazaar we went to the hotel and kept our packets at the room. Then we had lunch and had some rest. The children were sad that we had to go back the next day. They so enjoyed the visit to Shimla that it was impossible for them to think of going back to Delhi and get busy with their studies. That day evening we went to the Sankat Mochan Temple Shimla. We asked at the travel desk about the Sankat Mohan Temple and were told that it was only about 5 km from the hotel. They arranged a cab for us to visit the temple. We got ready in the evening and went to offer our prayers at the temple.
The view of the temple was breathtaking with lush green surroundings and the mighty Himalayas as the backdrop. The temple is located on the Kalka-Shimla Highway. The atmosphere here is calm and quiet, ideal for those who would like to spend a peaceful time. The temple was built in 1966, and is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is said that praying to lord Hanuman relieves one from all worries. There were also idols of Lord Rama, Ganesha and Shiva in the temple. It is such a calm and quiet place that it is perfect for anyone who wishes to meditate peacefully without any disturbance. There is a separate temple here built for Baba Neeb Karori Ji Maharaj, who initiated the making of the temple here and spent 10 years here meditating.
We were told that when the temple was built, it was a small one, but with the increasing flow of devotees to the temple it has now increased in size and spreads over a large area. The huge hall at the three-storey building in the temple premises was used for conducting marriage ceremonies and for many other religious purposes. The charges for this are very low and affordable by the common man. You get Prasad here on Sundays. We also visited the Ayurvedic clinic at the temple and bought a few ayurvedic products.
